2017 TERM ACTIVITIES AND IMPORTANT DATES

TERM 1

We encourage all students to set a specific goal for music theory, general music knowledge, or music analysis. Individual teachers will assist in formulating an achievable goal, and a record of progress will be kept throughout the term.

TERM 2

Exams for most students will happen at the end of Term 2. This means the majority of this term is spent preparing for such an exam and then completing the exam. You do not have to do exams if you do not wish to, there are many other ways of achieving your goals should you not want to go down the exam road.

We also encourage students to take part in a "teacher swap" for one lesson within this term. This means the student attends a lesson with one of the other teachers from Barnes Music and performs some of their scales, exercises and pieces for them. It is very healthy to have someone new listen to your playing/singing and can help you prepare for performances or exams by "getting the nerves out" of your repertoire.

TERM 3

We encourage all students to record a song/piece they have been working on, within one of their lessons within this term. The process of recording and then listening back to your recording is a very important step in learning. It helps the student to hear where they would like to improve, while also allowing them to hear how far they have come.

Term 3 is also when HSC students do their final performances.

TERM 4

The final activity of the year is our annual student concert. This concert gives students the chance to showcase their own individual songs, or to perform as part of a group. We try to encourage as many students as possible to take part in the concert so they can gain experience in performing.

The 2017 Student Concert is scheduled for Sunday, 26th November.
